- 2 tbsp red food coloring
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- ½ cup mini chocolate chips (optional)
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2–4 tbsp milk
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, baking powder, and salt.
- Mix warm milk, melted butter, egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl; add to dry ingredients.
- Gradually mix in remaining flour to form a soft dough; knead until smooth.
- Let the dough rise in an oiled bowl for about 1 hour until doubled.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle; spread filling made from softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon evenly on top.
- Roll tightly into a log; slice into 12 pieces and place in a greased baking dish.
- Allow rolls to rise again for 30 minutes before baking at 350°F (175°C) for 25–30 minutes.
- Prepare cream cheese frosting while rolls bake; frost once slightly cooled.
