  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  2. In a small bowl, mix together ½ cup of granulated sugar and ¼ cup cocoa powder; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the remaining flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, egg yolk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Stir the wet ingredients into the dry mixture until just combined; fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan and sprinkle with reserved cocoa mixture.
  7. Carefully pour boiling water over the batter without stirring.
  8. Bake for about 22-24 minutes until cracks form on top and edges bubble; let cool briefly before serving warm.
