  • 12 cups stale white bread cubes
  • 3/4 cup plus 2 tbsp butter (divided)
  • 1 large onion (chopped)
  • 2 cups celery (chopped)
  • 1 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp poultry seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp marjoram
  • 3 tbsp fresh sage (chopped)
  • 1/3 cup fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Cut stale bread into 1-inch cubes and spread on a baking sheet to dry if necessary.
  2. In a sauté pan, melt ½ cup butter over medium heat. Add chopped onions and celery; sauté until softened, about 5–7 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, poultry seasoning, and marjoram.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine dried bread cubes with sautéed vegetables. Add fresh herbs, beaten eggs, and chicken broth; mix until well combined.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and dot the top with remaining butter.
  5. Bake for about 50 minutes or until golden brown on top; cover with foil if browning too quickly.
