  • 1.5 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 750g ground beef
  • 40g all-purpose flour
  • 55g tomato paste
  • 500ml beef stock
  • 125ml red wine (or substitute)
  • 1.2kg potatoes, peeled, cubed
  • 165ml warm milk
  • 30g butter
  • 20g grated parmesan
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Sauté garlic, carrot, and celery until soft.
  2. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
  3. Stir in flour and tomato paste; gradually add wine and stock. Season with bouillon cube, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, bay leaves, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes.
  4. Boil cubed potatoes until tender; drain and mash with warm milk and butter.
  5. Allow meat mixture to cool slightly before spreading mashed potatoes on top.
  6. Sprinkle with parmesan; bake at 180°C (350°F) for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
