  • 360 g black coffee (or 2 tsp instant coffee)
  • 360 g all-purpose flour
  • 300 g granulated sugar
  • 150 g dark brown sugar
  • 75 g unsweetened Dutch cocoa powder
  • 270 g sour cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • 400 g butter (for frosting)
  • 660 g powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease three 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In one bowl, whisk together flour, sugars, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, cornstarch, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine vegetable oil, sour cream, eggs, vanilla extract, and black coffee. Mix well.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture until just combined.
  5. Distribute the batter evenly across the prepared pans and bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  7. For the frosting, beat room-temperature butter until creamy; gradually add powdered sugar and cooled coffee until fluffy.
  8. Once cool, layer the cakes with buttercream in between and frost the top and sides.
