  • 1 to 1.25 pounds flank steak, sliced thin
  • 4 to 6 cups broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons ginger, to taste (use less if dried)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 to 3 green onions, sliced into 1/4-inch segments
  • red pepper flakes, to taste (optional)
  • sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Coat sliced flank steak with cornstarch in a zip-top bag; set aside.
  2. In a saucepan, heat olive and sesame oil, add garlic and ginger, then stir in soy sauce, water, and brown sugar. Bring to boil and simmer until thickened.
  3. In a skillet, heat remaining oil; cook steak until browned, about 5–7 minutes.
  4. Add broccoli and sauce mixture; toss to coat. Simmer until broccoli is tender-crisp.
  5. Stir in green onions and serve garnished with sesame seeds.
