  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (cold and cut into 1/2-inch cubes)
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • sanding sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix chopped pears with sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, and vanilla extract. Transfer to a greased baking dish.
  3. In another bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, baking powder, spices, and salt. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Gradually stir in milk until just combined.
  4. Pour the topping over the pear mixture and sprinkle sanding sugar on top.
  5. Bake for about 35 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  6. Allow cooling slightly before serving warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
