- 1 stick unsalted butter (125g), melted
- 2 cups plain flour (300g)
- 1/2 cup white sugar (100g)
- 1 egg
- 3–4 large Granny Smith apples (~4 cups), diced
- 1/3 cup rolled oats (30g)
- Salted caramel sauce (for serving)
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 1/4 cup (35g) plain flour, all purpose
- 1/4 cup (50g) white sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180C (350F).
- Grease an 8-inch square pan and line it with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, combine melted butter, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until no dry ingredients remain. Mix in the egg.
- Press two-thirds of the mixture into the prepared pan to form the base.
- Bake for 15 minutes until slightly golden; allow to cool for five minutes.
- Prepare the apple filling by mixing diced apples with flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Pour the apple mixture over the cooled base and crumble the remaining dough on top.
- Bake for an additional 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
